Speed Up PC Performance - WinContig

Defragmenting files and folders on your hard drive is necessary to keep your system in check, but the whole process can take a long time and can put your computer out of commission while in use. WinContig is a different kind of defragmentation tool, offering options for defragmenting specific files rather than the entire disk. We found it easy to use and surprisingly fast.

WinContig is an easy-to-use stand-alone defragmentation software that doesn't create any installation directories or Registry entries on your computer.

Its purpose is to quick defrag files without the need to defrag the whole disk. Its defragmentation and analysis engine is based on the standard Microsoft defragmentation API.

In addition, WinContig allows you to group files into profiles, and also it accepts a number of optional command-line switches that you can use to control how the program operates.

WinContig supports two different defragmentation methods. If you choose the Quick method, WinContig does look for the first amount of free space large enough to defragment a file into and uses it.

Use this defragmentation method if you use tools like Windows Defrag to defragment your hard disk on a regular basis.

If you choose the Smart method, WinContig does look for the amount of free space that best fits a file into ad uses it. Also, if there is no free space large enough to fully defragment a file into, WinContig does try to reduce the number of fragments of that file.

NOTE: WinContig has been tested only on NTFS file system. WinContig is released as freeware for personal and commercial use.
