system.

smss.exe is a system process that is needed for your Windows system to work properly. It should not be removed.

After it has launched these processes, it waits for either Winlogon or Csrss to end. If this happens normally, the system shuts down; if it happens unexpectedly, Smss.exe causes the system to stop responding
  • This process is considered to be CPU intensive. Without proper management, CPU intensive processes can manipulate system resources and slows down computer.
